Mother's Day Gifts and Portrait Contest

Mother's Day is fast approaching. If you are looking for something that she will really love and treasure forever - buy her a gift certificate for a portrait session. Or order her a custom collage of her favorite photos she has been wanting to order. Call us today to get your order in before Mother's Day.

In honor of mothers I would like to present a contest. I am giving away one portrait session and a print credit to one lucky mother. To nominate your wife, mother, sister or friend just send me a quick email and tell me what makes her so special. The only rules are that the session must take place before September in the Cincinnati area and that she will let us share her first name and a few favorites from the session (typical blog fun).

Stephanie and Nick, Engagement Photos

Stephanie and Nick are so much fun! We had a great time photographing their engagement session at the University of Cincinnati. It was great to see where they use to hang out and they gave us a great tour of campus. I love how we even took a photo in front of their band room. It reminds me of my old band days. Stephanie and Nick thanks for being so great to work with - we can't wait for your June wedding! To see more photos check out our Facebook page.

Jenny and Philip, Engagement Book

Jenny and Philip's engagement session was beautiful. I wasn't surprised when they wanted to order an engagement book full of their fun photos. There were so many favorites that it was hard to narrow them down. Jenny did a great job of including some that happened to be my favorites too. Aren't they such a wonderful pair? I am so excited to see them for their May wedding.

Philip and I share a love for amphibians. So when I saw turtles on a log in the pond I had to use them in a few photos. How fun is that? When I saw they chose this photo for the engagement book I was excited that our little turtle friends were included.

Wedding Tip: The Bustle

This great tip was brought up during a fun dinner with wedding planner Kathy Piech-Lukas from Your Dream Day. I was telling her that I wish I could pack a bustle in our emergency kit. There are just so many different kinds of bustles that there is no way to help out and know every kind of bustle and how they work with each dress. Kathy said to make sure that at least one person (preferably two) go with you for your final dress fitting. And it is best that the person doing the bustle goes to the final fitting. This is great advice that is often overlooked because it is so close to the wedding and there are a lot of appointments to schedule. We had one bride pull out a 2 page handwritten instruction sheet for how to do her bustle. Of course she was in the dress so she couldn't help much. When should you bustle the dress? Most brides bustle their dress when they are leaving for the reception or when they arrive at the reception hall. You can use the loop inside the dress to help carry the train during photos (this is a great job for the groom to help with too). We do put time into the schedule for bustling the dress. It can take 2 minutes to 20 minutes, so be sure the have whoever is helping you practice the bustle a few times while at the final fitting. That way they can ask questions with the seamstress still there.

Special thanks to Kathy for this great wedding tip! The photo above has bridesmaid Laura bustling Sarah's dress. We photographed Laura's wedding in 2005 and she has been a bridesmaid in many of our weddings since then. Thanks for referring us to your friends Laura and for being such a helpful bridesmaid!

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day everyone! To celebrate we are going to be planting a tree in our backyard. How are you going to celebrate? If you are looking for ways to keep your wedding green, please remember to request using recycled paper for your engagement cards, thank you cards and bookmarks. The paper has a beautiful matte finish.

Congratulations Megan and Chris

Saturday was a beautiful day! I have been looking forward to this wedding since Megan and Chris booked us! I knew that their day was going to be so personalized with all of the details of the day reflecting their relationship. Their custom monogram was on the aisle runner and even the menu cards. And can you tell they like Ohio State? One of my favorite moments of the day was watching Megan open her gifts from Chris. He gave her a beautiful necklace with two miniature wedding rings. Chris received Ohio state cuff links that he showed off proudly during the ceremony to his bride. Megan and Chris, thank you for being so great to work with. We hope you two have a wonderful and relaxing honeymoon! To their family and friends - thanks for being so much fun! For more photos, please check out their Facebook gallery.

And a special thanks goes out to all of their awesome vendors who did a fabulous job making the day so great!

Ceremony: Our Lady of Lourdes
Reception and Catering: Receptions West
Makeup: Brideface
Hair: La Petite Salon
Transportation: Gallant Coach
Flowers: Murphy Florist
Video: 28Twenty
Cake: Fantasy in Frosting
DJ: DJ Butlers

One of my favorite moments during the wedding day is seeing the "second" kiss. This is after the couple walks down the aisle and their first chance to have a minute with each other after the ceremony. I love how Megan and Chris celebrated their wedding with a romantic kiss.

I love this photo because it includes some of the church in the background. Chris' dad was one of the architects that worked on building the church. Isn't that great?

The engagement book was a huge hit. This is just one more way that Megan and Chris personalized their day!

Andrea and Chris, Engagement

Andrea and Chris are so cute together! They were so much fun on Monday for their engagement session. I love how natural they are in front of the camera. I rarely had to ask them to smile because they are just so into each other. Spring Grove was beautiful with tulips and trees blooming. Andrea and Chris - thanks for making the session so much fun! I can't wait for your wedding in August.

Andrea had to reach for this kiss!
